Christmas/Holiday Meal

Whenever my family gets together for Xmas we try to designate a particular dish to each member. What do you contribute to your Christmas/holiday dinner? What's your favorite dish to eat during the holidays?

Try and try again

Sometimes the best meals can come off a truck or from a rinky dink place called Beto's. My message to my fellow food lovers is.. Try and Try Again!! Not every place you'll stop at is a gold mine but hey think about the long weeks miners spend searching in order to strike it big!!! Do not get discouraged friends, just continue to do one of the most simple acts of pleasure... EAT!!!!!!!!

Over Cooker?!

Obesity is a major issue in our country and I think everybody should do their best to stay healthy. I try my best to cook healthy when I make dishes but I have one major problem... I am an OVER COOKER!!! I do not have the capacity to make small dishes or cook small amounts of food. Is anybody else guilty of this? I need my fellow food lovers and at home chefs out there to give me some tips on how not to over cook.. Any help will be appreciated. I have a couple of pictures here that are an example of me NOT cooking a lot of food for a BBQ. What do you think? Do I need rehab?? XOXO

COOKING SHOW?!

Since we've all agreed that talking to ourselves while we cook isn't something we are alone on.. Have you ever done a full on cooking show while your making a meal. I love to say things like "and that's how you do it ladies and gentleman" and I am perfectly fine with the fact that there isn't an audience. Sometimes doing my cooking show helps me to remember recipes that I create. So my question is.. What would the name of your cooking show be? And while we are at it, if you could name a cooking show for me.. What would you name my show?! Open up and feel free to comment, answer the questions and follow my blog. XOXO

Am I alone here?!

This morning I got up to make breakfast for me and my daughter, as I flipped a pancake I said to myself "Great execution on that pancake flipping, Tamika!".. Now I am not sure if I am more embarrassed that I talk to myself when I cook or that I used the word execution. lol I know I can't be the only person who talks to themselves while they cook. So it's time to fess up out there... Do you talk to yourself while cooking? What did you say the last time you caught yourself? Be honest, share your stories and leave comments PLEASE!! XOXO

Menudo

To most people this might look like a bad idea..... But to me it looks like comfort in a can. And boy could I use some comfort this week. Being from Las Cruces NM, menudo is something that is a staple of any menu. Whenever I am home I make sure to eat as much as possible, so when I saw this at my local (Orlando FL) Winn Dixie I knew I had to try it. Not bad at all, of course I added diced onion, a squeeze of lime and oregano but I was pleasantly surprised. Not bad at all:)

day 2 meal 1

my breakfast :) leftover salad from yesterday, a little cucumber and pineapple to offset the pork I had yesterday.

I didn't take a picture because I was cooking for an event and just making sure it tasted right. nothing substantial.

33oz of cold water and maybe a bowl of cereal(special k and almond milk) if I still need something.

I should mention that according to 4 hr body, dairy is a no-go, wheat and rice no-go, fruit no-go. so maybe no cereal

food diary

My seester and I started this food blog thingy because we love food. obviously.  But of course that day I noticed a pudge below my belly button or a FUPA to some. This is not okay. So in addition to food reviews I'm also going to highlight my diet. I just recently learned of the 4 hr body and now you're going to learn about it too. First steps measurements and food diary.

To start, a virtual food diary.  Taking pics or jotting down what you eat throughout the day will make you more aware of it. Additionally, posting it online will give you more accountability.  I know I don't want anyone knowing I ate a half a tub of ice cream...maybe that's just me. This probably wont work if you literally have no shame.

My first meal of the day (11:22am) a little late...ok a lot late considering I woke up at 8 and you're supposed to eat within an hour of waking up. You're also not supposed to eat fruit. I fail there. I love pineapple.

first thing I ate today was a slice of pineapple

but I digress

My first meal
butter beans, baked chicken thigh, and a salad( tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, carrots, avocado, seasoning, honey, balsamic vinaigrette)

healthy doesn't have to be gross

King Kong Sushi

chicken salad cabbage tacos

there's a very good chance I won't remember what was in this beyond the fact that it was good.

A not so heavy take on a chicken salad sandwich.

red cabbage shells filled with shredded chicken breast (pre roasted), grapes, onions, green beans, orange bell pepper and onions.  Sautee everything in a skillet season to taste.  drizzle with Italian dressing and honey

What is your favorite local place to eat??

There is a Spanish buffet near my house.. not Spanish like tapas or Spanish like tacos but Spanish like PUERTO RICO!!! btw Latin/Spanish hardly describe anything in my book any who The food is DEEELICIOUS and I have come to the conclusion that they are making a killing at this place. The buffet costs 6 bucks and they serve foods like gizzards, liver, tripe(beef and pork) and pigs feet (stewed not pickled and they're delicious! don't judge me!!) They serve the popular things like chicken, pernil and arrozo con gandules, but the majority of their buffet is very in expensive meats cook to perfection. This just might be the secret to a restaurants success... They are really on to something. If you are every in Orlando FL stop by the Spanish buffet on Oakridge rd (so good I don't even know the name) WHATS YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL RESTAURANT?? A PLACE WHERE THE FOOD IS SO GOOD YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW THE NAME?? hmmmm

32 today and all I wanna do is...

So today July 27th 2012, I turn the big 3-2.. and all I really wanna do is, disappear with my 17 month old daughter and EAT GOOD FOOD all day and night. I used to have that urge to want to party and bullsh*t, as the song goes but now all I want is to be some where that I don't have to clean up and can order endless amounts of takeout from place I love and places I have never tried.. If you could eat anything right now, what would it be?? and I mean anything?? At this very moment I would choose PHO, but I am sure that will change in about 15 minutes. Yup a day of hidden bliss with my daughter, good food and a nice cocktail by the pool that's my idea of YOLO..(sorry Drake I can't buy the bar, I buy diapers)

Yea, I'd cut you for some good sushi

my reply: Girl, I'd step on yo throat for some good sushi.
As my seester and I sent text messages back and forth about all the food we loved and our passion for creating our own delicious dishes, it hit me... maybe we should write about our love for everything culinary!! Thus began this blog.. "Seriously, we are the only family I know who makes songs about good bread, does a dance when the dessert tray comes out, has to run to Sonic at midnight just to try a hot dog and probably loves food more than we love each other." So we will be sharing our love for food and our tips for everything culinary with the world.. Hopefully there are people out there who like us, will push a baby out the way for a Wholly Guacamole dog! ENJOY and respond
